Scene Reportzzzzzz

My next projects coming up on If You Make It are reporter comics about my west coast travels last year....here's a sneak peek....

Jersey's best Prancers...

So Liz Prince and I were uber stoked about the ERGS! reunion that happened in December....So we rocked the eff out, and then made comix about it....

Liz's intro page is here

and this one is mine...

Then we got to work on these pages together...

Check them out on If You Make It

Summer Jams.....

So pretty early on into these webcomics, I was thinking it would be pretty neat to do a bit of comix reporting, like the great Joe Sacco , but you know...not that heavy....more like the kind of stuff that Jessica Abel used to do.

Anyways, the plan got temporarily thwarted due to computer troubles, but the idea sent me on the track that led to these two comics....

find em' on IYMI here and here

novel figures...

So for my second comic for If You Make It , I decided I needed to rep the rad folks in
Good Luck, I love the crap out of this band, they are one of the few new bands in the last few years that have become "all time faves". Their first record, Into Lake Griffy, has been on pretty damn steady rotation ever since the first listen. These folks also put on an excellent live show, if they come to your town , don't be a sour puss, go check em out...
check the webby comic here .

If You Make It.....getting me off my ass....

So last spring I was lucky enough to get recruited by my homegirl Liz Prince to start contributing comics to
If You Make It , a rad music site outta brooklyn that had begun to publish some of her comics...

Now, I had never really done auto-bio comics, aside from an occasional letter or birthday card to friends, I had never cartooned myself...So I was pretty nervous about this undertaking, but It was really fun, and I've kept at them. Hopefully they're getting better as they go...

you can find this one here

I like super heroes.....duh....

So despite the fact that I spend a lot of time drawing more weird kinda comic stuff, or auto bio comics, I'm a big fan of you know....standard mainstreamy super hero comics...oh, the shame....

These are a few re-designs that I sent into

The wolvie got an honerable mention, though I'm happiest with yellowjacket....

Post Human Portraits 3...coloring book...

Some drawings never made it to color....which is a shame...I wanna paint that luckdragon someday....

Post Human Portraits....round two, FIGHT!

So I had fun with the first batch of portraits, so I kept at it for a while, certain characters made return appearances, and despite my original intent to just keep them totally freeform, I started to feel like there was a narrative to them, I started naming my friends alter-egos..If there was a character I liked a bunch, I would think of a way to sneak them in someplace new...

This batch of color work was for my 3rd portrait art show in phillly. I tried to get a little more ambitious with a couple of large multi-character pieces....I've always loved those old George Perez comics where he could cram a page with a zillion detailed characters.

Post Human Portraits...first wave...

So a few years back, I was fed up with comics. I had moved to philly with the intent of concentrating on art stuff and completing a mammoth Sci-Fi opus that I had started my senior year in college. It ended up being a 90 page monstrosity that will probably never see the light of day...Not that it's TOTALLY shitty....but by the time I got to page 90, I was sooooo fed up. I wanted to get back to fun.

So I started drawing my friends....as cyborgs, and monsters, and super heroes, surrounded by bits of pop culture arcana that I love.
I also decided I needed to teach myself some digital art skills, so what you see here are my first efforts at digi-painting under pen and ink line art..

all this silliness eventually led me back to comics...and more than a few of my buddies have become characters in my next attempt at long form cartooning....
